Mike Lowery - Director of Sport at GEMS Metropole Motor City. The school has been on a transformational journey in the last five years with PE and Sport being the spearhead of this change. The PE team has grown by over 100% and has a highly innovative approach to the development of leadership and growing talent with within. Turnover of staff in the department is extremely below the MENA average, spot sickness the lowest in the school and well-being scores amongst the highest. The PE and Sport team have adopted a high performance culture from within and this has translated to the students. The school boasts a world first scalable 'High Performance' PE curriculum for all students with on-site sports nutrition, strength and conditioning, sports psychology and sports recovery facilities partnered with the global brand Under Armour to drive excellence at extremely competitive mid market price point. All this was possible by a focus on prioritising culture, vision and values development and rebranding PE and Sport from the ground up.

High Performance Leadership in PE and Sport

The talk will share insights into the following areas: How we relaunched our department from the ground up (culture values vision). How we organically grew our leadership from within. How we positioned our department to lead the whole school transformation. How we became a high performing team. How this lead to innovations such as the high performance PE curriculum. This has fundamentally all been achieved with the same group of individuals that were previously in post.

Building Psychological Safety: Creating High-Performance Teams

Sam talks candidly about his own mental health struggles, to actively create safety with the audience. This simple act, of showing people how to actually create safety, builds trust and engagement with the audience. Sam then dives deep into the why behind psychological safety, but importantly also backs it up with further tools and techniques required. This engaging talk gives people an experience, leaving them feeling connected to one another, but also empowered to utilise the tools in their own setting or organisation.
