New women’s campus opens in Ras Al Khaimah
The new campus of the Ras Al Khaimah Higher Colleges of Technology for Women was opened on Sunday by His Highness Shaikh Mohammad Bin Rashid Al Maktoum, UAE Vice-President and Prime Minister and Ruler of Dubai.
Upon his arrival, Shaikh Mohammad unveiled the plaque of the Dh130 million HCT building, marking the opening of the new campus.
The new campus was built to accommodate the fast-growing number of students, and will replace the old campus that was built in 1993.
Following the inauguration, Shaikh Mohammad toured the new campus. In the library, he spoke with a number of students and signed copies of his newly released book, Flashes of Inspiration (Wamadhat Min Fikr), which were made available at the college’s library.
Shaikh Mohammad also attended a number of hands-on training sessions, among them the golden triangle programme which is based on three aspects: fundamentals of educations and use of technology, learning methods and perfecting the English language, and lastly, teaching students how to preserve their national identity and enhancing loyalty and dedication to the UAE and its wise leadership.
He also attended a lecture on electronic engineering, as well as a lecture on education technology, which trains and prepares primary school students for enrolling in HCT following their high school education.
While visiting another classroom, Shaikh Mohammad was briefed on a new programme created by HCT students to promote websites and video games. He was briefed by one of the developers on the specifics of the programme, which can also be used to create cartoons.
Shaikh Mohammad then watched a video highlighting HCT’s success since its establishment 25 years ago, as well as a video created by students which dealt with positive energy, of which Shaikh Mohammad is a firm believer.
He then visited the student media studio, where he acquainted himself with some of their programmes, and their participation in various film festivals, media forums, and other national events. Shaikh Mohammad also attended an online video chat held between RAK HCT and Al Ain HCT students, which are held for purposes of coordination and exchanging expertise.
Shaikh Mohammad expressed his happiness at the inauguration of the new campus, and praised the level of excellence in technology, culture and science. He praised the ambition of the UAE youth and their determination to learn and take advantage of opportunities made available by the UAE leadership, which provides students with financial and moral support so they can build the nation’s future.
Shaikh Mohammad wished the students success in their educational pursuits so they can serve and repay their beloved nation for its support.
The new campus is located next to the Ras Al Khaimah Men’s College. The student population at the Women’s College was 1,206 as of September 2012.
The opening ceremony was attended by Shaikh Hamdan Bin Mubarak Al Nahyan, Minister of Higher Education and Scientific Research, Mohammad Abdullah Al Gergawi, Minister for Cabinet Affairs, Mohammad Hassan Omran Al Shamsi, Chancellor of the Higher Colleges of Technology, along with other officials, faculty members and students.
