XPRESS wins best investigative report award at Sharjah government Communication Awards
Dubai: An expose by XPRESS newspaper was declared the best investigative report at the inaugural Sharjah government Communication Awards on Sunday. The report written by Mazhar Farooqui, XPRESS Deputy Editor, revealed how schools in Dubai go to extreme lengths in a bid to get top ratings from education regulator KHDA.
These ratings determine the percentage of fee hike a school is allowed. Farooqui’s special report The shocking truth about school inspections was published in the October 4, 2012 edition of the weekly tabloid XPRESS, a sister publication of Gulf News. Farooqui shared the prize with Ahmed Mohamed Morsy of Al Ittihad newspaper.
In other individual awards, Saudi journalist Dawood Al Shirian was named the GCC Media personality while Colonel Sultan Abdullah Al Khayyal, the Director of Sharjah Police’s Media and Public Relations Department won the Best Official Sharjah Spokesperson.
