Eleven private schools open in Dubai

DUBAI // Eleven private schools, including the emirate’s first offering the Canadian curriculum, have opened in Dubai, making room for 23,000 more pupils.

In total, 243,700 pupils have enrolled in Dubai’s 169 private schools, the Knowledge and Human Development Authority announced on Sunday.
 
Eight of the new schools will follow the UK curriculum, two of which will be combined with the International Baccalaureate.
 
Another two new schools will follow the Indian curriculum and the first Canadian school in Dubai is set to open this month.
 
“Happiness and diversity in learning is integral to success in education, particularly in the multicultural environment of Dubai,” said Dr Abdulla Al Karam, the director general of the KHDA.
 
“The start of the new academic year is a catalyst for positive energy, providing a platform for future success and accomplishment.”
 
By 2020, the KHDA aims to offer 360,000 school places for pupils as demand for education in the emirate continues to grow.
 
KHDA has also introduced parent-school contracts to improve relationships, awareness and communication between schools, pupils and parents.
 
Now in their second phase, the contracts have been introduced in 24 schools for 38,000 pupils.
